John Hay - Chairman
Dr John Hay takes over from Dr Ian Boddy as Chair of Grasslanz Technology Limited, a wholely owned subsidary of AgResearch.
John worked as a research scientist and manager at AgReseach, and its predecessor DSIR Grasslands, for 27 years, becoming GM Grasslands Division in 1998. In the late 1980s he established the Cultivar Development and Management group which became Grasslanz Technology Limited in 2003.
In the 1970s he was awarded DSIR Study Leave and spent time at the Welsh Plant Breeding Station in Aberystwyth, the research results from this time comprising the bulk of his PhD.
In 2000 John was appointed CEO of ESR where he worked until his retirement in 2011. During this time he was awarded the Royal Society Thomson Medal for outstanding leadership in science management.
John is also Chair of Motu Economic and Public Policy Research, and a Director of International Accreditation New Zealand.
Tom Richardson - Director
Tom Richardson became CEO of AgResearch in September 2010 following five years as CEO of Scion. Originally from the United States, Dr Richardson has worked in New Zealand science for 20 years. He spent 18 years with Scion, 13 as a practising scientist and science manager, and 5 as CEO. He has had frequent assignments on advisory boards, external review panels and international science and trade delegations.
Dr Richardson holds a number of science-related directorships and is on the Board of Waiariki Institute of Technology and the Riddet Institute Governance Board at Massey University.
