Our joint ventures

Learn more about how we have used technology to solve unique challenges.

Epichloe endophytes v3

Epichloë endophytes

As Endophyte Innovation, Grasslanz Technology develops novel Epichloë endophytes for ryegrass and tall fescue in conjunction with AgResearch and PGG Wrightson Seeds. Introduction of these endophytes has been a major technological breakthrough for the pastoral agriculture industry and has led to improved insect control delivering agronomic performance and improved pasture persistence. It is estimated that AR37 novel endophyte alone will have contributed NZ$3.6 billion to the New Zealand economy over the life of its intellectual property protection.

Grasslands Innovation v2

Grasslands Innovation Ltd

This joint venture between PGG Wrightson Seeds and Grasslanz Technology develops and commercialises proprietary forage technologies for pasture-based animal production systems
including key plant species such as ryegrass, fescue, chicory, plantain and red clover. Since its formation in 2007 over 40 new cultivars have been bred and released for commercialisation in New Zealand, Australia and internationally.

MI8 optics v2

MI8 Optics Ltd

MI8 Optics has developed rapid and non-destructive hyperspectral sensing and imagery technology to assess the presence, identification and viability of Epichloë endophytes in seed samples. The joint venture between Massey Ventures and Grasslanz Technology will commercialise the technology for the seed and quality assurance industries.
